CLICnet Catalog Changes on May 1st

Beginning May 1st, the Encore interface for the library catalog will no longer be available. Any bookmarks made in Encore will stop working on that date and should be replaced with links from the CLICnet Classic version of the catalog, which will be the version of the library catalog that will be available going forward. Remember to check for bookmarks in syllabi, Blackboard courses, Web browsers, and social bookmarking Web-applications.

The decision to discontinue Encore was made at the consortia level, and it enables the CLIC libraries to offer a wider search and discovery experience through OCLC’s WorldCat Local product, which will be implemented over the summer. With a single search interface, WorldCat Local will allow you to search Concordia’s book holdings and article databases simultaneously, with several options to scope your search, including limiting by format and expanding by location.

Please direct any questions about these changes to reference@csp.edu.

Get It

Look for the new Get It button in databases. It shows up when a search result is only available as a citation. It is currently active in EBSCO and ProQuest databases, and will soon be embedded in others. But what happens when you click on it?

First, it checks to see if the full text for the article in question is available either in other databases that the library subscribes to, or in the library's physical holdings.

If the full text is available, the pop-up screen will say Content is available via the following links:

If the full text is not available elsewhere in the CSP Library's databases, the pop-up screen will say Sorry, no holdings were found for this journal. If your above search was not successful, try InterLibrary Loan:

Now, click on the Journal article request form link. A pop-up will open into CLICnet, asking for your name and barcode. Enter your First and Last names separated by a space (if that gives you trouble, try your last name only). Enter your barcode number as found underneath the barcode on your Concordia ID. It starts with the numbers 205 and is 14 digits long. This is not your L Number.

Interlibrary Loan requests can take anywhere from a handful of days to 2 weeks to be filled, so don't submit a request if you have a short deadline because the material will not arrive in time. ILL is also available for Books and Book chapters, ERIC documents, Theses and Dissertations, and Conference Proceedings which aren't available via the CLICnet Catalog. Those forms are available at the following URL: http://concordia.csp.edu/Library/help/Forms/SpecificForms/illforms.html

TechTalk @ the LTC: Using the New CLICnet Library Catalog

On Monday September 14, @ 4:00 pm in LTC 218 (upstairs from the library), CSP Librarians will be holding their first "Tech Talk" (formerly known as "Brown Bags") of the year, talking about and giving tips on how to use the new CLICnet library catalog. We'll be saying a few words about the catalog's new look, how searching works, navigating and limiting your results, the tagging function, making requests, saving lists, the fate of the old CLICnet, and more. Bring your laptops and come with questions.

Are there any topics you'd like covered in a "TechTalk"? If so, let us know in the comments or email us at reference@csp.edu.

Yes, You Can Request Videos From CLICnet

Students and faculty alike can request videos found in the CLICnet catalog. Augsburg and the Bethel Seminary Library are the only CLIC members (besides Concordia) who allow their videos to be requested directly through CLICnet using the "Request It" button. For videos from other libraries, you need to send the request directly through Amity Foster (foster@csp.edu) or by using the Video Request Form found on the CSP Library Website. It takes around 2 days for videos to arrive via the courier service.

Two caveats:

1. Some of the videos owned by Macalester show up in CLICnet with a "Request It" button because of an error in coding their records. This is misleading. If you try to use that button your request will be denied.

2. Not all videos you request will necessarily be lent. AV sharing is full of idiosyncrasies based on licenses and each library's policies. Still, most videos can be lent, so it is worth the small effort needed to send your request to Amity or fill out the Video Request Form.

Library introduces the new CLICnet catalog!

When you click on the CLICnet Library Catalog link on the library’s homepage, you will be greeted with a different CLICnet catalog than you’re accustomed to seeing. With CLIC’s purchase and implementation of the Encore Discovery Layer, the library catalog is now accessed via a single search box. The new design and functionality allow for a broader perspective on what’s available, and offer the ability to refine results by facets (such as format, location, publication date) and user generated tag clouds. Relevancy ranking displays the most fitting results to the top, and if Concordia owns materials matching the search results, our holdings will always display first in a list. “My Account” services like requesting from other CLIC schools and online renewals are still available, just as before. Navigation now operates on one main page instead of requiring you to click back and forth through results and individual records.

If you are a fan of the previous CLICnet interface, or need to do an advanced search, you’re in luck. Simply click on the Classic Catalog link located above the right side of the new search box and you will be delivered to the previous interface, which is still functional for requests, renewals, and is currently the only place to access the Course Reserves search interface.

If you have questions or would like a personal demonstration, connect with us at the Reference Desk at (651)641-8812 or reference@csp.edu.

Your Library Record and the CLICnet Catalog will be Unavailable on Tuesday, January 13th

Please expect an entire day of downtime to the library system and CLICnet library catalog on January 13th while a hardware migration is in progress. This means:

-Holds can't be removed for late or lost books because fines will not be able to be accessed or collected; therefore, if you have a library hold on your record on January 13th, you will not be able to register on January 13th.

-You will not be able to search for materials and make requests via the CLICnet catalog.

-You will not be able to place ILL requests.

-No overdue or courtesy notices will be sent out on the 13th; they will be sent out on the 14th instead.

-You will not be able to renew materials.

-You will still be able to check out books from the Concordia library with your Concordia ID.

-Library Databases will still be available.

Thanks for your patience and understanding while CLICnet is upgraded to new servers.

Looking for a general list of available foreign language materials?

If you are looking for a general list of foreign language materials available through CLICnet, try this tip:

In the keyword search box enter "lang***" with the *** being the appropriate language code from this page. Take a look at the screenshot below for an example using the code "spa" for Spanish language materials.

clicnet spanish language search example

For a limited number of foreign languages, you can use the dropdown box of choices on the advanced search screen. This method works only in combination with other search terms (i.e. when you are looking for foreign language materials on a specific topic or when you are looking for a specific item).
